Crossing Bridges – Operationalising Risk Analysis Tools

Crossing Bridges looks to better understand tool adoption/validation processes of partner agencies, and work with these agencies to overcome identified barriers for at least two already developed biosecurity tools or models.

This project builds on work done in the scoping project Building Bridges to Impact from Biosecurity Research (July 2024 – June 2025). Working alongside both researchers and end-users, Building Bridges aimed to identify where previous B3, Biological Heritage National Science Challenge, and Ministry for Primary Industries developed risk analysis tools and models could be advanced within a wider context and overcome barriers to adoption. A short-list of five prioritised tools or models were identified in this project.

In Crossing Bridges, the research team will work alongside researchers, data scientists, IT specialists, stakeholders and end-users, to make at least two of the tools or models fully accessible with end-users. This interdisciplinary and interagency collaboration will ensure that any challenges faced are approached and understood from multiple perspectives, and will bring us a step closer towards end-user agencies having deployable tools at hand for risk assessment during an incursion or new organism application.
